 The Science of Things

Sophie monaed staring at the sheet in front of her. She hated bioogy and had no idea what she was doing. Having put off her homework the class made less sense than usual.

She sighed looking around the room seeing everyone else working busily. Glancing back at the sheet again she compared it to her textbook. The chromosomes on her page seemed to just morph together, and the example in the textbook wasn't working.

Was this a boy? Girl? Were they healthy? Down Sydrome? Sophie slammed her head against the desk in defeat.

Science! Surely he'd be good at this. After all the process of liquidizing dope had to be apart of Chemistry, right? Mecardo was well versed in this act. Although now clean, somewhat frustrated and confused, he saw the future as bright! Science! Light bulbs were bright! That was physics! He knew that much. The day was looking to be good.

Mecardo dressed himself in the smartest of clothes; a pair of ragged jeans and a greyish hoody which he had grown a liking to in the past year. It was like it was his security blanket.

He glanced down at his watch with a buzz and jump in his step. 20 minutes late! But it was science, and surely he could make up in science. Afterall, he was good at science. Optimism, it would get him through being 20minutes late and the teacher would be so imrpessed with his skill that they would forget all about his lateness.

Science! Mecardo opened the door and walked in, with an innocent smile on his face. He never usuallly attended his classes, certainly not his acedemic ones. But this was science.

"Science!" he said aloud with a wideness of his eyes and a clap of his hands. Just one clap, not two, nor three, just one. He looked around him, his top teeth chewing aimlessly on his bottom lip. The unenthusiastic class seemed to have lowered his excitement. There was no candles, no spoons, no nothing. And suddenly he realised that science was certainly not all it was cracked up to be.

His happyness of the subject drained from his face as he glanced around the room and saw the text books and bored faces of his peers. Suddenly he didn't feel so confident. Instead he felt paranoid, embarrassed.

With a quickened pace, Mecardo made his way to an empty space and moved the text book closer to him. He stared at it, as if not believing what he was seeing. With a sigh, he prodded his partner. "Hey, I thought this was science," he claimed, "This is like... Doctor work or something."

OOC: Gah, I had so much inspiration, and a plan for the post, then I suddenly just forgot it... lol, sorry. My poetic Cardoness has drifted from me. I MUST get it back!!!!

Sophie sat up at the sound of her partner's voice and couldn't help but smile at his unenthusastic approach to the work assigned.

"So nice of you to show," Sophie laughed, "I thought I'd have to suffer through this alone."

She sighed realizing that if this was his intital appraoch then he wasn't going to be much added help. Looking around the class at the other confident students she looked back at her partner, "you do know this is Bio right?" she asked playfully.

Mecardo rolled his eyes. He felt kind of stupid that he didn’t know the girls name, and irritated. He could just picture a beautiful joint floating in the air. It was beautiful and it was only weed, yet it was an escape from the four walls, from the tables and chairs and from the students. He felt so different from the other students there. Like he had lived a completely different life to them, saw things a completely different way. He felt like an outsider watching them all, as if they were all wrapped in a bubble. He wondered if any of them knew of his secret ways. He briefly wondered what Rolf’s book was like. Rolf had been writing a book on him. A book, on Mecardo. He had been recording everything, anything. And although Mecardo wished not for it to be published, Rolf still requested to write it.

“Bio/science, same thing.” He shrugged. “This isn’t real science anyways. I was expecting proper stuff, not this crap. I mean I make more science every single day of my life than you could ever make or learn in this class room.” Life was science anyways. He moved his eyesight onto the partner and rolled up his sleeve. He was always wary of this due to the track lines which he wore off trips and dead veins. He held his hand out for her, crossing it over himself. “Mecardo Jinks.” He introduced himself, shortly followed by a harsh cough. “So, is there anything decent to do in class? What’s the point in this anyways? I miss like a year of school or whatever, don’t get kicked out and then when I come back, we do this! What a welcome present!”

He searched silently around him. Inside a fearful clove was growing and he wanted to hide behind it. His heart raced and he could feel the palpitations in his neck. He hated that feeling, of trapped breath due to anxious terrors. Who were these people who could hurt him, kill him, knock him down...

"I'm Sophie Daniels," she said watching him carefully. He seemed incredibly uneasy and his eyes kept darting aorund the room.

"I'm sorry I suck at science," she said trying to find a way to make him feel better. Was it because he came back to school and the work wasn't done? She bit her lower lip feeling lisghtly guilty for now good reason.

"Are - are you alright?" she asked worried about him as a fearful look spread across his face.
